Pallana coconunt farm developed by Adv. Majeed

Last week we had a trip to 'Thenkasi' a town in the Southend of Tamil Nadu. The famous water falls 'Kuthralam' is 6 kms away from here. This was a business trip, though we visited some places on the way. The frist place we halted was 'Pallana' a village near Alleppy Dist. This place for the famous boat accident which took the life of 'Mahakavi Kumaran Asan' We visited the farm land of Avt.Majeed, who is friend of our MD. This was a beautiful place with sourrounding waterscapes. Its just stone throw distance from Bay of Bengal and full of coconut trees. It's an island and we went by 'Thoni' -the traditional boat. The trip was very much arrtactive as it was an adventurous trip in the small boat. Time was nearly 9 am and we were all in empty stomachs. The tender cocconuts served by farm labours in Advocates place was nice.

My life in Connect + Journey through Human Resources Management.

I joined Connect Plus in October, 2004 as Recruitment Officer and now promoted as Asst. Manager. When I joined in CP monthly average recruitment was less than 10 persons and the present status is impressingly better. We have already started 2 branches in Chennai & Mumbai and flourishing towards a full-fledged recruiting consultancy with nationwide network and operations. By assisting SM, now I am co-ordinating the branch operations in fulfilling the client requirements. In the recent recruitments from Mumbai, Baroda and Chennai for Proman, Al Habib & Nagarjuna, I have done a leading role in co-ordinating interviews, forwarding medicals, ensuring travel in time etc. Our Cochin office is 100% successful in eliminating middlemen and agents, who were exploiting our recruitees. Being a dedicated employee, I am proud to be an instrument for the same. I wish if I could continue with CP for the coming years, I feel that I can contribute much more for the vision of CP ie. to become one among the top recruitment consultancies in India.

My career path .....Market Research my profession

I started my career with a service associate of Kotak Mahindra car loans as Sales Executive in 1997.
Next year I got a chance to join IMS Health, (www.imshealth.com ,now known as ORG-IMS Research) a leading market research agency in Global level as Field Research Officer. This was the first company (corporate) I worked with and remained there for more than 5 years. I joined Cochin as in charge of Kerala and moved to Chennai with more responsibilities. My role was to co-ordinate field data collection, compilation and reporting to HO. I have developed a string of distributors, retailers and hospital from were we get purchase and sales data electronically for our research purpose. In Chennai I was again successful in empanelling leading specialist doctors (cardiologists, neurologist, diabetologist etc.), for information gathering. The statutory benefits like ESI, PF, Gratuity etc., Periodical trainings and ESOP (Employee Stock Option Plan) were the outstanding attractions, which stuck me with IMS Health for more than 5 years.

In 2003 October, I was compelled to come back and settle down in Cochin, to be with my parents in obligatory circumstances. At the same time I got an opportunity with M/s. Milma Foods Ltd. (this was a JV between MILMA and Mother Dairy) as Sales Consultant and worked there for nearly one year. Later this company closed due to some changes in governmental policies.

Educational Background -Passion for studies

I have done my schooling at Govt. High School, Mulanthuruthy and Pre Degree at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. After the Pre Degree course, I have got admission to B.Sc. (Co-operation & Banking) in Kerala Agricultural University, Trichur through entrance examination. Even though this is a professional course focused on Agri-business Management and marketing, there was no proper placement assured. After completing my graduation, I was forced to take up my first job, as the financial condition in my home was not strong enough to support my dreams for higher studies.

My desire for higher studies took me to evening classes in Bhavan’s Academy, Cochin and I have obtained Post Graduate Diploma in HRD from Bhavan’s Institute of Management, in the academic year 2005 -2006 with good marks.

I have done certificate courses in Counseling & Psychotherapy from Santhwana Institute, Cochin and in Transactional Analysis from ICTA, Santhigram, Cochin. My passion for Psychology and related subjects helps me in my areas of social interactions and relationship building. Presently I am doing a Post Graduate degree – M.Sc. (Psychology) from Madras University.

My Family Background ....

I was born and brought up in a traditional family in Mulanthuruthy village near Cochin. My father is a merchant and mother is a housewife. Even though we were dealing with coconut, areca nut, black pepper and other hill products our main activity was coconut buying, processing and selling copra to oil mills in Mattanchery/ Cherthalai. This was a home based small scale business which requires high level of hard work and physical labour. Coconut loading and unloading, de-husking, drying in daylight and dryer house, de-shelling etc. requires large amount of patience and hard work and there was no mechanisation available at that time. This is one of the factors which inspired me for hard working and timely completion of assigned jobs from my schooldays itself.
